abstract

the witches’ broom disease of lime trees is a destructing disease caused by the bacterium candidatus phytoplasma aurantofolia (1). the disease is prevalent in oman, united arab emirates and iran. to restrict the spread ofthe infected trees, detection of the causative bacteriumis crucial. besides pcr-based methods, antibodies can beapplied for detection of pathogen-infected cells.recently shahryari et al. demonstrated that polyclonalantibodies generated against a cell surface protein of thebacterium could be used for effient detection of phytoplasma-infected plant cells (2). in their very conclusivepublication the authors describe generation and bindingof polyclonal antibodies against the immunodominantmembrane protein (imp) of candidatus phytoplasma aurantifolia. immunization of rabbits with recombinantantigen resulted in polyclonal antibodies with very hightiter, which enabled the development of a highly sensitive, but simple elisa assay for phytoplasma detectionin infected plants. for studying plant cell-phytoplasmainteraction, specifi antibodies against cell surface proteins of candidatus phytoplasma aurantifolia and thehost cell would be useful.

A multiple-antigen detection assay for tuberculosis diagnosis based on broadly reactive polyclonal antibodies

Objective(s): Detection of circulating Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) antigens is promising in Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis. However, not a single antigen marker has been found to be widely expressed in all TB patients. This study is aimed to prepare broadly reactive polyclonal antibodies targeting multiple antigen markers (multi-target antibodies) and evaluate their efficacies in ...

Production of Erythropoietin-specific polyclonal Antibodies

Background: Erythropoietin, as a principal hormone promotes red blood cell production in bone marrow. Varieties of erythropoietin biosimilar are being produced by recombinant DNA technology in cell cultures. The detection or quantification of these molecules are being performed by diff erent methods which some of theme such as Western blot and enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) require sp...

Polyclonal antibodies for the detection of Trypanosoma cruzi circulating antigens

BACKGROUND Detection of Trypanosoma cruzi antigens in clinical samples is considered an important diagnostic tool for Chagas disease. The production and use of polyclonal antibodies may contribute to an increase in the sensitivity of immunodiagnosis of Chagas disease. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Polyclonal antibodies were raised in alpacas, rabbits, and hens immunized with trypomastigote e...
